People fail to remember that Karen Carpenter not only had a voice of velvet, but was a totally kickass drummer. Enjoy everything, Sue. (BTW: Josh Frese.) xo

Meytal Cohen, straight-up badass female drummer!! Have you heard of her? If not, check her out!

I have been following her for years now, from when she first started out, posting videos on YouTube, covering the drum line on metal and rock favorites, to crowd-sourcing her own studio albums and concerts. She is awesome and totally inspiring for any young woman, or young man, aspiring to go their own way... Love this kid, she truly ROCKS!!

Yes!! Sue I love this! I've had a secret obsession with drum playing myself but unless I can clone myself, I'm going to have to focus on my art! One of the best performances I can recall is Mike Shrieve at Woodstock playing with Santana; Soul Sacrifice; just an incredible solo and performance overall... he's part of a group of drummers who have a video chat series StickPeople where they interview great drummers. Anyway... your message from this weeks publication really resonated and yes to enthusiasm!!

I love this Jennifer!!! Thanks for the tip and will check it out - StickPeople!!!! I mean how awesome is THAT! I think your enthusiasm for your art is a great equal to my enthusiasm for the drums - we can secretly live through each other’s passions! ❤️

Love it, not to be a troublemaker, but join a band, what comes to mind is a talking heads tribute band, or maybe a jazzy swing music band! I just watched on YouTube an old live Chicago group video of their early hit “ I’m a man.” Good drum solo halfway in.

I welcome your ‘troublemaking’ Stephen! I think I need to get semi-competent first, but a tribute band sounds like an excellent stretch goal! I’ll check out the Chicago YouTube. I’ve gotten other really good suggestions from this post! Here’s one from my friend Dave: https://youtu.be/6wkCsnFRuwg?si=rxHb1H9jjUchZUJZ

Sue.......I am reading this on Valentines Day. I have always been enthusiastic about all of my hobbies: 1) Playing the piano, 2) Owning and flying an airplane, 3) Landscaping and architecture, 4) Tropical fish, and 5) Yes, model trains!! But Joan was everything in my life, and losing her, I lost my enthusiasm for life. It was for her, I played the piano. She was my co-pilot as we flew our airplane all over the country. We built a beautiful new home together and she was my landscaping partner. She loved to watch the fish while reading her magazines as she was once a scuba diver. Life is so nothing without her. I miss her so, so much especially on this day, Valentines Day.

Don, I am so sorry, Valentine’s Day is just really awful when we lose our beloveds. There are no words that make it better. I hope these hobbies will come back to giving you joy someday, but it just feels like it’s too soon now for them to feel like they once did with Joan by your side. I hope this day can pass quickly for you. Take care.
