I began my Substack letter Heart Demons when my husband was recovering from yet another tedious infection that his care team would surely finally trace to its source and take care of. I kept up my one-personal-essay-a-month schedule when the doctors discovered K’s cancer had returned — in a new place — accompanied by two other forms of cancer, including in the brain. I have been asked if writing helped me. I have said two things, “Absolutely not!” and “I don’t know, but I would probably be worse off if I hadn’t written.” I wrote to a poet to praise a poem she’d written about her husband’s death, and she warned me the first anniversary will be extra hard. https://glenningersoll.substack.com/p/of-love-and-other-demons
